Ark Encounter

I think most everyone who has been exposed to any amount of Christianity has heard the story of Noah’s Ark at least once or twice. But did you know you can actually see a replica of it in-person?

With a quick trip to Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY, you can explore what life might have been like for Noah and his family.

The ark itself is an impressive 510 feet (155.4 m) long, 85 feet (25.9 m) wide, and 51 feet (15.5 m) high, a rough approximation of the measurements given in Genesis 6:15 (300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in breadth, and 300 cubits in height). It has three decks that offer a look at how they could have survived for over a year in the ark.

The ark was much larger than I had expected, and their exhibits help shine the light on how it may be possible for this story to be real.

Ark Encounter has set up exhibits showing the animals that they believe would have been brought on the ark. There are even a few dinosaurs! These areas show how the animals would have been kept, fed, watered, and cleaned up after. They have displays showing how the people would have lived on the ark as well. A few of the displays include a blacksmith shop, Noah’s workshop, gardening, and sleeping areas.

Ark Encounter is a great place to visit, especially if you are a believer. If you’re not a believer, I think you would still enjoy the visit. Plan to spend a couple of hours on the ark because there is so much to see and read.
