Cumberland Falls

I bet you didn’t know that the Southeast, more specifically Kentucky, has its own “Niagara Falls “.

Located in Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, within Daniel Boone National Forest, sits quite an impressive waterfall called Cumberland Falls. This waterfall measures 69 ft. tall and 125 ft. wide. 3600 cubic feet of water spills over the edge, earning it the nickname “Niagara of the South”.

This magnificent waterfall is also home to a unique and magical feature known as a “Moonbow”. Cumberland Falls is one of only two waterfalls in the world, and the only one in the Western Hemisphere, where the moonbow is a natural occurring phenomenon. Moonbows can only be seen during the full moon on crystal clear nights and are created by refraction of the moonlight in the mist created by the falls.

Cumberland Falls has several overlooks that allow great views of the waterfall. There are benches, picnic tables, grills and a small beach area just beyond the falls. There is also a snack shack and a small gift shop and clean restrooms on site.

Cumberland Falls offers several other things you may enjoy such as riding a raft to the base of the falls, hiking trails, and fishing, just to name a few.
